Animal, fish and agricultural farming can be done in the city. This is called urban farming. Many countries, especially those with scarce natural resources are turning to urban farming to supplement their food needs.
In Singapore, for example, they are looking at aquaculture and vertical farming so that the city-state can produce plants and vegetables. An organic farm group in the country is promoting indoor farming both as a way to secure their food supply and to battle climate change.
As with fishing, they are turning to deep-sea farming so that they can boost local production. They also have building where fish farming is done.
The country is also exploring how to use robotics and sensors in their farming.
Urban farming is all about efficient use of space. While there may be no more natural spaces. unused portions of the buildings, or areas near the rivers and drains can be used for farming purposes.
In the Philippines, it can also be done. Many condos now are becoming green condos where unit owners could plant, through vertical farming and install the materials needed to plant vegetables and herbs.
